SHOW AT AILE GALLERY DURING SEOUL ART WEEK
Aile Gallery is pleased to present Unexpected Night Out, the first solo exhibition in Asia by Italian artist Riccardo Nannini, opening on August 30 during Seoul Art Week. The title captures the essence of Nannini’s vision: scenes that begin in the comfort of suburbia but drift into something subtly off-script. Through works such as Backyard Fun, Home Sweet Home, Out of Tune, The Candle, The Costume Party, Playing Cards with Ants, and The Snake of Love, the artist constructs quiet domestic settings where small fractures—costumes without context, animals acting like symbols, cracked windows, gestures suspended mid-thought—invite viewers into a narrative that feels both relatable and strangely derailed. The familiar becomes charged, as if an unexpected event has just happened or is quietly unfolding.
Presented for the first time in Korea, these paintings introduce Nannini’s blend of meticulous realism, understated humour, and psychological tension to a new audience. His suburban universe, rooted in Western iconography but open to universal interpretation, becomes a mirror for the rituals, contradictions, and subtle absurdities that shape contemporary life. By situating Unexpected Night Out within the vibrant context of Seoul Art Week, Aile Gallery highlights the artist’s international trajectory and offers viewers an opportunity to reconsider the boundary between everyday normality and the uncanny elements that lie just beneath its surface.
